We are the National Youth Development Outreach.
We are National Youth Development Outreach
In 1990, Billy Paulson established a Community Development Organisation called “Youth Development Outreach” (YDO). Its mission was to provide opportunities for young people to participate in positive, developmental activities that would divert them from a life of crime and substance abuse. Its foundational value was to treat the young people with unconditional acceptance.
Years later, the organisation still exists, and even though its name has changed to National Youth Development Outreach (NYDO), it remains true to its original mission and values.
Over the years, the organisation has grown and developed to offer a comprehensive range of prevention and intervention services, as well as developmental programmes aimed at shaping the future of South Africa by developing new skills, knowledge and values among children, youth, and their families, to help them achieve their fullest potential in life.
To achieve its mission, NYDO focuses on addressing the underlying socio-economic conditions that increase the risk factors for criminal behaviour, such as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate parenting.
Through its Adolescent Diversion Programme, it also provides a second chance for children who have already been in conflict with the law, diverting them from further criminal activity and developing skills and values to help them overcome life’s challenges.
Our Core Objective
Provide holistic training, education and developmental programmes for children and youth at risk and those in conflict with the law.
